Three horizontal stripes of red, white and light blue make up the flag of Luxembourg. The colors were first used around 1830 and the tricolor was defined in 1848. A law officially adopted it only in 1993. Locals informally call it Rout-Wäiss-Blo.

About the flag of Luxembourg
What it means: The three colors were borrowed from the heraldic arms of the ruling House of Luxembourg.
