About these winter pages
Winter pages are perfect for snow days, cold afternoons and January classrooms. The easy pages (snowmen and a penguin in a knitted hat) have thick lines and big spaces for ages 3 to 6. The medium pages show children building a snowman in the park and a log cabin among the pines, and the detailed snowflakes have fine, symmetrical patterns for older kids and adults.
Snow doesn't have to stay white. Light blue and lavender make great shadows on snow, and a dark blue sky makes a white snowman stand out. For the snowflakes, pick two or three cool colors and repeat them around all six arms, the same way you would with a mandala.
A nice classroom idea: after coloring a snowflake, talk about how every real snowflake has six sides. Then let each child design their own. For more winter fun, see the Christmas tree pages.
