About the flag of Papua New Guinea
What it means: Red and black are traditional colors of many local tribes. The bird-of-paradise also appears on the coat of arms, and the Southern Cross can be seen in southern skies.
Did you know? The winning design came from Susan Karike, a 15-year-old schoolgirl, after a national competition.
